Joyce Hempstead has three decades of experience in graphic and publication design. Passionate about language and the arts, she earned her bachelor’s in linguistics, her master’s in design and typography, and built a career designing for higher education and institutions.
With years of experience  as director of publications in a university setting and later as director of communication for an independent school in Boston, Joyce now concentrates her time on her freelance clientele.
Her design expertise covers all manner of graphic projects: annual reports, fundraising collateral, advertising, alumni magazines, view books, logo/branding, and event materials for educational and other institutions. Joyce's clients appreciate her professionalism: inspired design is to be expected, but her attentive communication, editorial eye, and sensibility to a client's schedule and budget is what keep her clients loyal.

"From half-page ads to 32-page annual reports, Joyce's designs are always innovative and interesting. And her reliable, timely service means that I always receive what I need when I need it— even if our offices are on either side of the Atlantic Ocean."

"I have used Joyce Hempstead's design expertise and services to create compelling printed material for several projects. She created an elegant and consistent style for an entire suite of capital campaign materials—all beautifully designed for a polished feel to this very successful campaign. Another project consisted of a guidebook for a weekend-long architecture-related event in Boston, which required a concise format with high visual appeal for a sophisticated audience, along with a very quick production schedule. Joyce presented several preliminary design ideas from which to choose, turned drafts around quickly, and gave excellent advice on printing—even shepherding the project through production. It is always a great pleasure working with her."
